Is a tiny drizzle of olive oil on my 0.8 kg rescued kitten safe compared to putting it on my 6 kg adult cat?

Short answer

The olive oil itself is non-toxic to both cats regardless of size. The difference is purely in calories — a 0.8 kg kitten has far fewer energy reserves to spare, so extra fat adds up faster than it would for a 6 kg adult. A quarter teaspoon in the kitten bowl and half a teaspoon in the adult bowl is plenty. Watch both for loose stools over the next day, since the additional fat can briefly soften their Bowel movements. If everything looks normal after twenty-four hours, you can keep using it occasionally.

Mild paprika is usually tolerated, but hot or smoked varieties irritate the stomach.

Dogs and cats carry the same rating (Feed with care), so the notes below hold for either pet.

Paprika is not poisonous to dogs, but it is easy to over-feed. Rich fat, salt or seasoning can bring on vomiting or diarrhoea within a day, and repeated large portions are a recognised trigger for pancreatitis.

If it ate some before you noticed, watch for vomiting, diarrhoea, loss of appetite, unusual tiredness or a painful, swollen abdomen over the next 24 hours. A one-off small amount in a healthy adult usually passes with water and rest; repeated exposure, a puppy or kitten, a senior, or a pet with an ongoing illness is a reason to call your vet the same day.

Why these cautions matter

Added sugar brings empty calories, and over months that means weight gain and dental disease — both far harder to undo than to avoid.

Paprika can turn up now and then, but not as a daily habit: keep the rest of the day's food unchanged and watch the next walk and the stool that comes with it.
