Can a pregnant 12 kg spaniel safely drink fresh kiwi juice that still has bits of skin in it?

Short answer

Kiwi flesh is safe for pregnant dogs in small peeled portions, but kiwi juice with skin fragments is a different matter. The fuzzy skin is tough and difficult to digest, and it can cause gastrointestinal irritation or even a blockage in a pregnant dog whose abdomen is already under pressure from the growing puppies. Stick to small peeled slices of kiwi flesh only during pregnancy and nursing. If your spaniel has already drunk the juice with skin, monitor her for vomiting, constipation, or reduced appetite, and call your vet if anything seems wrong.

Safe in small peeled slices. Skin is hard to digest.

Dogs and cats carry the same rating (Safe to share), so the notes below hold for either pet.

Kiwi is not toxic to dogs. The real limit is calories, fat and salt, so treat it as a small extra alongside the normal ration rather than a meal in itself.

There is no poisoning risk here, and the usual problem is simply eating too much at once: a heavy fat or salt load can bring on loose stools or a single vomit. Offer water, keep an eye on the pet for 24 hours, and do not induce vomiting.

Kiwi can stay on the rotation, but only as an extra mouthful: keep the rest of the day's food unchanged and watch the next walk and the stool that comes with it.
