Is bison safer for my 4 kg cat than regular beef, or are they basically the same?

Short answer

They're essentially the same for a cat — both are safe cooked and plain, and bison is just leaner with slightly less fat. A 4 kg cat can have a few small bites of either without any risk. The only real difference is that bison is sometimes sold as a novelty or limited-ingredient protein, which means it's less likely to trigger allergies in cats who've been reacting to beef long-term. Just make sure it's cooked through with nothing added — no butter, no seasoning, no bones. Offer it plain, watch for vomiting, and call your own vet if anything seems off.

Safe cooked and plain, like lean beef.

Dogs and cats carry the same rating (Safe to share), so the notes below hold for either pet.

Bison is not toxic to cats. The real limit is calories, fat and salt, so treat it as a small extra alongside the normal ration rather than a meal in itself.

There is no poisoning risk here, and the usual problem is simply eating too much at once: a heavy fat or salt load can bring on loose stools or a single vomit. Offer water, keep an eye on the pet for 24 hours, and do not induce vomiting.

Bison can stay on the rotation, but only as an extra mouthful: keep the rest of the day's food unchanged and watch the litter box and how quickly they finish the next meal.
